The PLANET platform provides scientific and technical expertise dedicated to the processing and valorization of natural resources. It supports research, development, and innovation projects through its skills in project management, method and process development, experimental support, training, and science communication.

Missions

PLANET operates at several levels to support its partners’ projects:
° Project management: leading research projects, consultancy services, and structuring technical and scientific approaches.
° Technical expertise and research support: designing, implementing, and interpreting experimental work.
° Technical, financial, and human planning: organizing the resources needed to ensure projects run smoothly.
° Supervision and knowledge transfer: interns, engineers, and doctoral students.
° Method development: designing characterization and processing methods adapted to each natural resource.
° Process development: creating, adapting, and instrumenting pilot-scale facilities.
° Training and science communication: training and supporting experimenters, hosting practical sessions, and sharing knowledge.

Areas of activity

PLANET’s expertise is organized around three main processing domains:
° Dry fractionation, separation, and sorting
PLANET studies the mechanical stresses applied to natural resources, such as shear, impact, attrition, and abrasion. This work relies on fragmentation, separation, and sorting processes to adapt the material to its intended uses.
° Structuring and hydrothermal treatments
The platform analyzes the physicochemical mechanisms involved in transformation operations, including hydrolysis, crystallization, and structuring phenomena. These studies are carried out using drying, hydration, mixing, and compression processes.
° Characterization of raw materials and transformed products
PLANET develops analytical methods to assess the characteristics of materials before and after processing: size, shape, color, specific surface area, texture, moisture content, ash content, and other physical or functional properties.
